To call Ruth Bader Ginsburg an icon of gender equality is reductive, because her legacy was so much more.
Everything she did had meaning and purpose: her gradual and thoughtful elimination of civil inequality, her fashion choices and her language in expressing dissents in the dock, such as wearing different collars to express her opinion on a pending case.
Both her victories and her dissents, well aware of their power, were always fiery, impactful, poignant but above all eternal.
As Ruth herself said, "dissenters speak to a future age."
This Kokeshi doll celebrates Ginsburg's career, embodying change and reminding us that there is still much work to be done. Lucie Kaas, to honor her, will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from this Kokeshi to the American Civil Liberties Union.
The slender, cylindrical-shaped body serves as a base for the head, which is round and larger than the figure, to enhance the character's face, which is also made with stylized lines, and Kokeshi Doll includes some of history's greatest figures and past artists in the fields of fashion, art, and music who have become true fashion and style icons.
